The Dream
The Woods Family owns the Campgrounds of America site located in Petaluma and last year they decided it was time to update their existing play area with a new and much bigger play structure. Their dream was to be able to accommodate more children, appeal to the varying ages of their visitors, and, most importantly, to “WOW” their campers, both young and old, to keep the families coming back to the Petaluma KOA year after year.

The Theme
Petaluma KOA prides themselves as being “Country Camping Near the City” and for 30 years they have marketed the farm theme at their site, so it was only fitting for the Woods family to choose a farm theme for their new playground.

The Woods Family loved the farm theme, and they also wanted to create an environment of fun that would meet the high energy of children. The family spent countless hours discussing the specific components they wanted to include; it was not uncommon for the playground to be the topic of discussion at the dinner table. In the end, all three generations of the Woods Family contributed to the design by selecting their favorite play equipment components. Landscape Structures designed various farm components to be used in the play structure. There is a traditional red barn and peaked roof with the signature rooster looking out the window. The barn panels are outfitted with cutouts of cows, sheep, and goats. There is even a special 2-5 year play area designed into a giant green tractor.

Time to Play
This is truly a family playground. Some of the newest products from Landscape Structures can be seen at this site: a giant Spacenet, fun Saddle Spinners, two Gemini Slidewinders, and the adventurous climbing Rock and Ridge. The playground features components and a customized design that most kids won’t see at their neighborhood parks.

Chris Wood, the campground manager says, “Initial reaction to the playground has been beyond expectation! Parents love it, kids think it’s really awesome and, so far, we’re all smiles!”
