Over the last year, we have provided updates on the proposed – and now passed - AB 1144 that changes the playground safety requirements for new and existing playgrounds in the State of California.
We want to remind everyone that the new law goes into effect on January 1, 2008. As previously noted, the law will require public playgrounds to comply with current federal playground standards ( American Society of Testing Materials and Consumer Product Safety Commission).
The law will also require all new playground installations be inspected by a National Playground Safety Institute certified inspector. We would be happy to help you find a certified independent consultant who can provide an inspection for your project.
The full text of the law can be viewed by visiting the California Park and Recreation Society’s website (http://www.cprs.org) and choosing “Legislation”, then “Leg. Links”, then “Search for California Bills”, select “Session: (2005-2006)PRIOR”, enter “Bill number: 1144” and press the search button and choose "chaptered", or use our direct link.
