Before you begin to plan your new playground, there are a few questions you’ll need to answer. The following planning guide will help you gather the information you need to begin the design process.
User Age
What are the ages of the children who will use the play structure?
Functionality
What are your priorities for the functionality of the play structure? Are you more interested in sliding, climbing or swinging? Is the focus physical fitness or imaginative play?
Space
How much space is available for the play structure?
Shade
Will the play structure be in a sunny location? You may want to consider installing some type of shade cover to protect children from the Sun.
Color
Do you want the play structure to blend with its environment, or be bold and stand out?
Timing
What is the timeframe for the project?
Budget
What is your budget for the entire project? You’ll need to allow for the cost of safety surfacing under the play structure and installation of the equipment, surfacing and border, and any necessary site preparation work.
Installation
Will your playground by installed by a professional installer or a group of volunteers?
Maintenance
Who will maintain your play structure? Is ease of maintenance a priority for the design?
