Frequently Asked Questions

How long has Ross Recreation been in business and is it privately-held?
Ross Recreation Equipment Company has been in business for 33 year and we are proud to be family owned and operated. Our company mission is to foster long-term relationships with our customers, sell premier products, offer outstanding service and support, and operate always with integrity.

Do you provide a full turn-key service?
Yes, Ross Recreation Equipment is a licensed specialty contractor that can provide a turn-key approach to playground planning and construction, from a community needs assessment, to design and complete installation services. We can make it all happen for you. A successful installation isn’t the end of our client commitment, however. We service what we sell—from general advice to warranty issues, from replacement parts to full-scale retrofits, from safety and compliance updates to sneak peaks of exciting new products.

Do you offer installation on all play equipment and other products for our playground?
As a licensed contractor, Ross Recreation Equipment can provide complete installation services for all the play equipment, surfacing, shade structures, site furnishings, and athletic equipment that we sell.

Can I arrange a volunteer installation?
Yes, Ross Recreation Equipment can work with you on your volunteer installation. We offer a Technical Assistant service for a fee per day, providing you with one or more of our representatives that can provide technical assistance to your crew of volunteers. Our representatives will not perform the installation, but rather act as a technical advisor to your volunteer crew. To learn more about a Volunteer Community Build, please contact your local sales representative.

I have an older Landscape Structures’ play structure that I want to modify. Is this possible?
Yes, Ross Recreation Equipment can work with you on retrofitting your existing play structure in order to add new play elements and/or ensure that the structure‘s components are meeting current ADAAG (accessibility) and ASTM safety standards. Please contact your local sales representative to set up a site visit to discuss your playground’s specific retrofit needs.

When designing a play structure, what type of plans will I receive for review?
Ross Recreation Equipment will provide you with a full proposal for your playground, including presentation graphics at no charge. We will provide you with a 2D plan design, detailing the fall zone space as well as overall site dimensions required to accommodate the structure. For those interested, we can email you the 2D plan as a CAD file as well. Additionally, we will provide you with a 3D color rendering of the play structure, where we have the ability to show you the reverse view of the structure as well. How do I determine the clearance zone needed around my play equipment?
The clearance zone needed around your play equipment varies depending on the play structure and its specific components. Most play structures require a minimum of 6' clearance around the perimeter. However, swings require a larger fall zone, as do many of the independent play units. Your local sales representative can work with you to determine exactly what fall zone is required for your playground equipment. For your play structure design, you will be provided with a 2D plan drawing that will detail the necessary fall zone area.

What are the playground surfacing options that you supply?
Ross Recreation Equipment can provide you with Poured-In-Place Rubber, Playbound Rubber Tiles, or Playground Wood Fiber as surfacing options for your playground. To learn further about these playground surfacing options, click here.
