Sustainability Product longevity and recyclability shape our environmental policy.
We take our impact seriously
Sustainability for Ross Recreation means maintaining a long-term perspective of how our actions affect future generations. As product representatives, we choose our manufacturers wisely; they must be leaders in safety, innovation and sustainability. As a result, the parks and playgrounds we install have the lowest impact on the environment, while still demonstrating the highest level of quality, durability and craftsmanship.
Products
Ross Recreation is committed to providing products and design strategies that benefit not only the communities they become a part of, but also the natural environments they are placed in. We do this by offering products that 1) are made out of recycled content and 2) last a long time, thereby lessening the need for newly processed equipment.
The majority of the products we represent are made primarily out of post-consumer recycled content, typically from old milk jugs, old tires and plastic shopping bags. Use of this material reduces consumer waste placed in landfills and reduces the need for the extraction and processing of natural, virgin material. It also makes these products recyclable at the end of their life.
Sustainable Product Selection
Ross Recreation can help you select products that meet your LEED® requirements or simply guide you through the best products to meet your sustainable wishes. At your request, we are able perform an eco-audit to give you the recycled content and carbon footprint of your purchase.

Practices
While our products are the cornerstone of our business, our commitment to sustainability flows into who we do business with, and how we conduct business at our headquarters in Santa Rosa, California. We make every effort to mirror the pioneering environmental policies and practices of the companies we represent.
Landscape Structures, for example, created the original green playground product before “green” became commonplace terminology. They also became the first commercial playground equipment manufacturer in North America to be certified for environmental stewardship under ISO 14001.
In mirroring these efforts, we at Ross Recreation are very proud of the small yet significant commitments to sustainability we take seriously at our main office in Santa Rosa, California, including:
Energy Conservation: In 2008, we upgraded all lighting components at our main office to reduce energy consumption related to lighting by 48%.
Efficient Office Processes: All Ross Recreation employees participate in Kaizen staff training, a program that provides ongoing support to improve office efficiencies, including conservation practices such as paperless communication and energy-saving office equipment usage.
Environmental Stewardship: Our Creek Stewardship Program has created a cleaner environment for plants, wildlife, and visitors of Brush Creek, a natural stream habitat that borders our main office. In addition, Ross Recreation owners Bonney and Ewing Philbin are active wildlife conservationists, currently working to protect hundreds of acres in California and Montana.
